Meet the Team
Current Lab Members

Api Chewcharat
Api grew up in Bangkok, Thailand and graduated with an MD in 2017. He then came to Boston, where he completed an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health in 2019. He completed his internal medicine residency training at Mount Auburn Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He is currently a clinical research fellow in Nephrology at BWH/MGH. He is interested in epidemiology, causal inference, machine learning and onconephrology. Outside of medicine, Api enjoys cooking, playing Nintendo switch, swimming and water-based outdoor activities.

Emma (Qiyu) Wang
Emma grew up in Shanghai, China. She attended Fudan University and received her medical degree from Shanghai Medical College in 2015. She completed internal medicine residency at Cook County hospital in Chicago, followed by nephrology fellowship at the combined Massachusetts General/Brigham and Women’s fellowship program. After graduating from fellowship in 2023, she joined the Renal Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as faculty, with a clinical and research interest in glomerular disease. She is currently co-mentored by Dr. Astrid Weins and Dr. Gupta, conducting multicenter epidemiological studies in glomerulonephritis. She was awarded the GlomCon fellowship for her research in this area. In her free time, she practices wheel kicks at her beloved Taekwondo Dojang and enjoys reading novels.

Rajesh Anumolu
Rajesh grew up in Massachusetts and holds an MBBS degree. His focus is on large-scale health data analysis to better understand kidney-related outcomes in oncology populations and patient perspectives on health outcomes. Outside of work, he runs a design and IT consulting firm and enjoys traveling.

Sophia Wells
Sophia grew up in Akron, Ohio, and graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Population & Public Health from John Carroll University. She joined the Gupta Lab as a Research Coordinator in the Summer of 2022. She plans to pursue a career in medicine. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and running.

Mia Rubman
Mia grew up in Morristown, New Jersey and graduated from Bucknell University in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She moved to Boston to join the Gupta Lab as a Research Coordinator in the summer of 2025, and is committed to pursuing a career in medicine. In her free time, Mia enjoys walking around Boston needlepointing, reading, and trying new restaurants around Boston.

Robert Rider
Robert grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with minors in Biochemistry and Mathematics in 2024 from Duquesne University. He is currently working towards completing the MS in Medical Sciences program at Boston University, with plans to pursue a career in medicine. Robert joined the Gupta lab in June 2025 as a Research Intern as he finishes his master's with a research-based thesis. Robert enjoys weightlifting, running, and spending time with his family and friends in his free time.

Kiana Zargari
Kiana grew up in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Boston in 2024 to attend graduate school. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Physiological Sciences from UCLA and is now pursuing a Master’s in Medical Sciences at Boston University. Kiana is passionate about medicine and is eager to build a career in the field. Outside of work, she serves as a biochemistry teaching assistant, and in her free time, she enjoys cooking, practicing yoga, and spending time with her family and friends.

Ava Kim
Ava grew up in Sharon, Massachusetts. She is currently working towards her BS in Biology and will graduate in the fall of 2026. She joined the Gupta lab in the spring of 2026, and is eager to pursue a career in medicine. In her free time, she enjoys dancing on the Northeastern Dance team, listening to new music, and spending time with family and friends.
